Frequently asked questions
Can DossierFix see my data or documents?
No. Your details and files are processed exclusively in your browser and stored locally on your device (IndexedDB). The PDF is generated on your device too. There are no uploads, no database and no user account. For payment, Stripe only receives the price and language from us – no dossier data; you enter your payment details and email directly with Stripe. The only exception is the optional AI assistant, and only with your consent (see the next question).
What happens to my data if I use the AI assistant?
The AI assistant is optional and only active after you consent. Only the text you send yourself is transmitted – your questions or, if you ask it to improve your letter, the text of your motivation letter. Your documents, photo and form details never leave the browser. The text goes through our server to Anthropic (USA), the provider of the Claude AI model; we store neither questions nor answers. Suggestions are never applied automatically, and you can withdraw your consent in the assistant at any time.
What goes into a rental application dossier in Switzerland?
Typically: a cover page with photo, your personal details, information about your employer and income, your household (people, pets, musical instruments), a short motivation letter, a copy of your ID or residence permit, a recent debt collection extract (Betreibungsauszug) and your last three payslips. References, for example from your current landlord, are optional. DossierFix guides you through each item step by step.
Where do I get a debt collection extract (Betreibungsauszug)?
The extract is issued by the debt collection office (Betreibungsamt / office des poursuites) of the municipality where you live. In many cantons you can order it online – for example via easyGov.swiss or your canton’s portal – or request it at the counter of the debt collection office or at a post office. There is a fee. Landlords usually expect an extract that is no more than three months old.
How can I pay?
By credit card, debit card or TWINT. Payment is handled on Stripe’s checkout page; we never see or store card details. The price is a one-time CHF 19.– – there is no subscription.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari – on desktop, tablet and smartphone. In private or incognito mode your details are deleted when you close the window, so for work across several sessions please use a normal browser window.
Can I still edit my dossier after paying?
Yes. After payment, downloads are unlocked in the same browser for 7 days. During that time you can change your details, template and attachments as often as you like and download the PDF again – for example with a tailored letter for each apartment.
What if something doesn’t work?
Write to us at the email address listed in the legal notice. If the PDF cannot be created or downloaded because of an error on our side and the problem cannot be solved, we will refund the full price on request within 14 days of purchase. The exact terms are set out in our terms and conditions.
How do I delete my data?
In the builder and after downloading you will find a “Delete my data” button. It removes all details and files from your browser. You can also clear the site data in your browser settings. Since we hold no copy of your data, nothing remains afterwards.
Which languages can I create my dossier in?
German, French and English. The PDF and the motivation letter are produced in the language of the website. Choose the language spoken in the region of the apartment you are applying for.
Can I continue on another device?
No, and that is by design: your data only lives in the browser where you entered it and is not synchronised. The unlock after payment also applies to that browser only. So it is best to prepare and download your dossier on the same device.
